Fetish Question

Question:
How do you get rid of a sexual fetish if it disturbs your sex life and destroys your ability to have normal sex?
Answer
For most people, with most fetishes, the best way to deal with them is not to try and make them go away. It is to learn to accept them and to incorporate them into both your solitary and partnered sexual experiences. Fetishes are really just strong preferences. Most every human being has strong preferences in terms of their eroticism. It's just that people whose strong preferences are considered "normal" by society are not called fetishes. Those preferences that are considered "abnormal" or different by society are labeled fetishes. But, really, we all have our own preferences - aspects of our own erotic template that are unique to us. Try relaxing and talking to a friend or lover about this and see what happens. We tend to worry about these things more when we just keep it secret. So, think about talking this over with a trusted person. If you don't have someone you feel comfortable doing this with, I would suggest that you consult with a Clinical Sexologist or sex therapist. Even if you only see them for one session, they can help you get started on the path to increased self-understanding and self-acceptance. To find a professional, look up Kink Aware Professionals (KAP) on the NCSFreedom.org website. That will help you get started.
